*Important information about this agreement*
The CAUL open access publishing agreement with Springer is predicted to reach its annual limit (cap) by the second week of October. After the cap is reached, there will be no further APC waivers approved. The cap is finite. If authors wish to publish open access, they will need to pay the APC themselves.

  • The title list is available online but is dynamic and may change throughout the year. You can also check the publisher's website for the most up-to-date list of titles.

Capped Agreement

  • This is a capped agreement. The agreement applies has an allowance of 3511 articles, in over 2000 journal titles

Key points

  • Articles accepted after January 1, 2024 are eligible for open access under this agreement
  • The agreement includes most of Springer Nature's hybrid journals
  • The agreement does not include the Nature portfolio journals e.g. Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Climate Change
  • Authors from participating institutions publishing in Springer Nature's hybrid journals can utilize the article processing charge (APC) waiver
  • Corresponding authors must use their institutional email address and include a participating institution as one of their affiliations to benefit from this agreement and will be identified by:
    • institutional affiliation
    • email address
    • IP address
  • Hybrid journals that "flip" to OA during the course of this agreement will remain available for OA publishing for the duration of the agreement
  • Springer Nature journals do charge additional fees such as page and/or colour fees not covered by the APC waiver. Check the journal's submission guidelines for other fees and charges.

Article types

The following article types are eligible for open access under this agreement:

  • original paper (original research, original article, original paper or research paper)
  • review paper (standard article, interpreting previously published results).
  • brief communications (short article submitted for rapid publication that exhibits the same structure as a standard article)
  • continuing education (article forming integral part of further education, usually medical).

There are no exclusions.
