EndNote 2025

Sync using EndNote Online

Sync your library with EndNote Online

  • EndNote allows you to synchronise your desktop library to your EndNote Online or EndNote Web account.
  • You can use the sync feature to access your library via your online account from another computer or device.
  • You can only sync one library at a time.
  • Do not move or rename your EndNote library files after they are synchronized as this will break the link to the Sync target library.
  • Any changes you make to your EndNote library will sync and be reflected in you EndNote library on other devices.
  • Once your library is synced you can move your documents between devices and work on them with the same EndNote library. Read this article on using Cite While You Write and Sync between multiple devices.
  • Watch the video below for instructions on how to set up EndNote's sync feature.

Installation and configuration issues

Need to access EndNote library via both a Mac and PC?

EndNote libraries are cross-platform compatible. Following the EndNote end user licence agreement, this means:

  • You can install EndNote on up to three computers for personal use
  • Those computers can be any combination of Mac and Windows machines
  • By creating or logging into your EndNote Online or Web account (under preferences > Sync), that individual can sync their library across three computers, as well as access it through EndNote Online and the iPad app.
