Why use EndNote 2025?
EndNote software allows you to create bibliographies and in-text citations, eliminating time-consuming formatting and typing. There are several new features in EndNote 2025, however, the majority of the functionality remains the same as EndNote 2021.
NOTE: SCU Library recommends EndNote for use by Postgraduate, Honours, and 3rd year students, as well as staff.
It is important that you are familiar with manually creating references in your style before using any automated tool. EndNote won't teach you how to reference, and it won't automatically fix incorrectly entered data. Only consider using EndNote if you have a large number of references to manage.
What can you do with EndNote
- Create a customised library to hold and manage all your references
- Attach PDFs, or any other kind of file to your references. Read, annotate, and cite directly from attached PDFs
- Organise your library using groups
- Insert references in Word and create citations and a bibliography matching the requirements of your selected bibliographic styles
Do I need to upgrade to EndNote 2025?
You do not need to upgrade to EndNote 2025 from EndNote 21 or earlier versions if:
- You are close to completing your major work (publication, thesis etc)
- You are already using EndNote's sync features and Endnote Online or EndNote Web
- You don't need sync features (required for using across devices and sharing libraries or groups)
Use EndNote 2025 if:
- You haven't previously used EndNote desktop before
- You need to use the sync and sharing features of EndNote and haven't previously set up an Endnote Online or Web account with the older versions of EndNote (X8, X9, EndNote 20)
